Just in the last few weeks before taking President's Award 1 Ballroom medal. I still get very nervous (even though I'm a 'mature' student!!!) - advice anyone?

Hi Hawkeyed =)

If you get really nervous before you go in, take a few deep, controlled breaths where you breathe in for 5 seconds then breathe out for five seconds. By doing that it means that you're concentrating more on that than what's about to come. I also find that making sure the routine's securely in my head helps so I can reassure myself with that fact =) and finally, you've got this far and at least passed, what's going to stop you now? I'm sure you'll be amazing, and good luck!

Hi =)

wow presidents award is pretty high isnt it??! (ive done all my exams with a different board, UKA)
I've always found the best thing to do when nervous for a dance exam is to try and relax. Make sure you know your routine well and warm up before you go in. If you quickly go through your routine in your head (or dance it through) beforehand it may help to boost your confidence as it'll show you know exactly what you're going to do! Be confident and positive!

Good luck, relax and just have fun, that's the key! =)

Good luck in your medal test.  I am still trying to get the courage to do my first medal and I have been dancing now for nearly 5 years!

It's the most wonderful feeling when you get a good result. - I was a very late starter. - I'm 60 next month & only started having proper lessons 3 years ago!!!  I have a fab dance teacher (who used to compete at the same time as (and tour with)  A & E), so I am in good hands.  DO IT. You won't regret it.  Good Luck. x

Rosalind,

Hawkeyed is right! it feels amazing when you get a high result! I dont think it is ever as nerve-racking as you think when you are actually on the floor though.
i've been dancing for 14 years (quite a while i know lol) and it is really rewarding when you do well!
Go for it! :) you have nothing to lose!

                go for it, I passed my bronze in Feb this year after dancing for 4 years. Felt really nervous before hand but once on the floor it just flew past. I got honours in both ballroom and latin and it was the most fantastic feeling, I have now caught the bug and am practising for my silver in November

I think I will have a word with my teacher on Thursday and see what she says!

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement.

Thank you, fellow dancing pals.  I am pleased to say that things went well and I have managed to get Honours in President's Award I Ballroom and also in Gold Bar II Latin.  -  I am naturally over the moon.  Thanks for all your advice which has paid off.   (Wish Anton was here for a celebratory dance!!)
